Roberto Micheletti?s hit man. The story of the torturer Joya Am?ndola,
Right-hand man of the current president

Who has witnessed the Central American war in the 80?s must have been astonished to find out that the ?counsellor minister? of the actual Honduran President is Billy Joya Am?ndola.
It is very important to reconstruct Joya Am?ndola?s past in order to understand the political culture of the council who made the coup, chaired by Roberto Micheletti.
In the 80?s Billy Joya Amandola was one of the minds of the intelligence troop 3-16, was in charge of kidnapping and making disappear the political opponents, and was the founder of the death-squads ?Lynx? and ?Cobra?. So he was one of the main responsible people as far as kidnapping, torturing and murdering in Honduras were concerned. He has been accused with certainty of at least eleven murders under the nickname ?doctor Arranzola?. Moreover he is accused of kidnapping and torturing six students, of which four are currently desaparecidos. The kidnap took place on 27th April 1982, in the home of the deputy magistrate Rafael Rivera, violating the immunity of the person number two as far as the country?s justice is concerned, using the classical methods of Argentinean Dictatorship.
In fact it is certain that Joya Amendola has been trained in Argentina under the guidance of Guillermo Su?rez Mason, one of the main children kidnappers of the last dictatorship.
He was awarded a scholarship by the Honduran army to study in Chile at the time of Pinochet. Subsequently from ?84 to ?91 he became the link between he Honduran army and the Argentinean and American chastisers.
From 1985 the Spanish Government applied for his extradition, yet it was never granted. However, in 1995 he was evicted by a judge from Tegucigalpa for abduction and torture, and managed to escape to Spain, seeking asylum until 1998. During those years he worked as catechist in Seville. Honduras is the country hosting a very important American base overlooking the whole Latin America. Even so no one realised that a bunch of old-style militaries organised a coup, which could be either against president Zelaya or president Obama. On the other side it is worrying the fact that being Honduras outside the Organisation of American States, it could be an ideal place without democracy, where traffics of weapons, drugs, mercenaries could flourish. The Church of Opus day and of Legionaries of Christ has suggested the exiled president to remain as such. And the shadow of Negroponte comes back in every corner. His name appears behind many large plantations. He invented the modern Honduras with these features.
Almost 70 years old, Negroponte grew behind Nixon, Reagan, Bush father. He started in Vietnam where his genius became evident. He played a tranquil role, while being close to extremist militaries, and spoke Vietnamese perfectly. Reagan summoned him at the Pentagon besides Colin Powel. When in 1979 Dictator Somoza was removed in Nicaragua, Negroponte was named Ambassador-Vice-King in Honduras. He completely transformed the Embassy into the largest one of the Americas, hiring 6 thousand people, a real base for CIA. He founded the Contras with Oliver North, an army of counter-revolutionaries that made war against Nicaragua to ?re-establish good order?. The brigade 314-m was born, with the aim to reprimand rebels: torture, mass executions documented in Washington by the Committee for the defense of Human rights. Yet the peak of the mission was the IranGate. Making use of Pinochet?s war industries, they brought arms to Saddam Hussein, who was fighting a war to Khomeini on behalf of the USA. On their return they carried Russian gun machines and missiles collected in Beirut, to spread over the Honduran borders with Nicaragua, and to accuse the government of Managua of the massacres of the Miskitos indigenous people. The genius behind the operation was Negroponte.
He announced the result of elections in TV. When in ?83 Newsweek spread the News on the contras in Nicaragua, he called journalists for a press conference with no questions, just with his speech. He claimed that there was no initiative to hit Ortega?s government. He also pretended that the gigantic embassy was just a rumour.
After 20 hours of trip, our troupe reached Cifuentes, 12 km from Nicaraguas? border. There was a fenced military field, with soldiers armed with the Sovietic AK47, as well as Palestinian gun machines. American guys instructed half-blooded and Indios. They were diffident, showed us just the canteens.
Negroponte carried on his career in Panama, preparing the invasion that removed president Noriega. Finally he became governor of Bagdad. Grand finale: czar of the seven secret services, the most powerful man of the USA until Obama?s arrival. The Tegucigalpa coup could be the prologue of the new comedy that the former tranquil American could play in Central America. Yet if the removed president appears next to Ms Kirchner, the prelude could become drama. No one can go back.
