THE OPIUM OF THE PEOPLE
The famous phrase that says ?Religion is the opium of the people" may also be true, but I think there is another drug that is addictive, much more dangerous, because millions of people around the globe are poisoned by it and it is a drug empowered by the states, by society itself. You are urged to believe that it is a good thing, that it is a right thing, you grow up believing and respecting this opium. An opium which makes people vulnerable, which makes them bad, sometimes cruel. In order to procure the dose needed, they rob, kill, devastate lands with pollution, destroying ancient forests to get more of it.
To get more of this drug, sometimes people kill their own parents taken by the drunkenness of this drug. Sometimes they enter into partnership with more people becoming multinational companies to procure it in abundance.
Some people experience withdrawal symptoms and taken by the vicious circle of not being able to be without it, they don't have any qualms with their inhibitions, so could even sell their bodies to the highest bidder, or are forced to do so because they become slaves of those who exploit human beings and children to get their fair dose.
It is called money, the true opium of the people, opium that gives you the sensation of feeling good, being strong, invincible when you have it, and makes you feel bad, creates fear, makes you shake, when you are deprived of it.
It creates dependency on some people because it pushes them to collect a large quantity of it, they want to see the bank account growing more and more, as if it were the only real reason worth living for.
Others are so addicted to it, that they feel terror to spend money and become so incredibly greedy, becoming selfish, depriving themselves to use it because it would be too painful to be separated from it, depriving themselves also of things of crucial importance. Yet the fear they have to spend money is too great, they love it too much? in short, it is a real illness, a manic obsession.
We are not even aware of how this legitimate drug is conditioning our life, burning our neurons as the real drug. The human being starts behaving in a way that people who are not totally dependent and with a little inner conscience, would never do.
We rape children, sometimes even babies, kill people, even parents or siblings, baby animals are killed without mercy taking away their fur when they are still alive, we devastate forests, pollute air, water, earth, in the name of money-opium. We invent viruses in the laboratory to sell vaccines.
There is no drug worse than money to people who are not able to handle it as expected, it makes many people go out of mind, but it has not been forbidden to use it yet? (In contrast, without money even the law persecutes you because you are penniless).
One day, when our society will be more developed, the first thing we should do, is to eliminate money from our lives forever, only in this way we'll be free of this obsession that imprisons our mind and soul.
Only in this way we will find the real freedom of our spirit and we could hope one day to become one with God.
Only releasing the spirit from the burden of money, we'll find peace in ourselves and we could aspire to become worthy to enter the kingdom that Jesus 2000 years ago promised us. "No one can serve two Masters. Both God and money." (Matthew, 6:24).
