THE DARKNESS OF THE SOUL
The darkness of the soul is a curse in which you can fall and from which it is difficult to escape. The darkness is powered from falsehood, not only external, or social and political one. It is also represented by those individual behaviours that make us indifferent to what happens around us every day, in nature, in human relationships, in society, in the choices, even the smallest, most natural ones, such as what food to choose, what to wear... Falsehood generates hypocrisy and the latter leads to injustice. The darkness is complete then, it gets around us, it makes us stumble, tied with a thread, like puppets, to who wants everything to be done according to a script of "normality".
The darkness of the soul does not let us see that there is instead a light, but "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it?. (John 1:5)
But the experience of our brother and guide, has repeated to us once again with the Master: "The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." (John 12:35 ? 36)
Drastic choices lie ahead, times of suffering come upon us, our feelings are affected, our children are subject to continual dangers, but the route is that one indicated: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (Jn 8:12).
"for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ "(Ephesians 5: 8-21).
So our only escape is to live in the light, and just for good and fair works that justify us, in union and communion that make us less vulnerable, in love and mutual understanding that, although for convenience, give us the "passport" to a different society.
" But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God." (Jn 3.19 to 21).
All this in the belief that the new "... city (the Heavenly Jerusalem) has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. " (Rv 21, 23).
A brother of ours was let in through the darkness to tell of having met the Christ and that "And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light" (Mt 17, 2).
