After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ?Penance, Penance, Penance!'. And we saw in an immense light that is God: ?something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White ?we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.

IT FOLLOWS THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT THE VIRGIN SHOWED TO LUCIA, IT WAS WRITTEN ON 3RD JANUARY 1944:
ANNO DOMINI 1944 - XX CENTURY. Around 4 p.m. of 3rd January 1944, in the chapel of the convent, before the tabernacle, Lucia asked Jesus to let her know his will: "I felt then that an helping, loving and motherly hand touched my shoulder." It is the Mother of Heaven that told her: "be in peace and write what they order you, but not what it was given you to understand of its meaning," wanting to allude to the meaning of the vision that the Virgin herself had revealed to her.
Soon after - "I heard the spirit flooded by a mystery of light that is God, and I have seen and heard in Him: the tip of the spear like a flame that detached itself, it touched the axis of the Earth, and trembled: mountains, cities towns and villages with their inhabitants were buried. The sea, the rivers and the clouds were out of their limits, they overflew, flooded and dragged along, in a whirlwind, homes and people into a number that can not be counted, it is the purification of the world from the sin in which it is immersed. Hatred, ambition cause the destructive war. Later I felt in the accelerated throb of the heart and in my spirit a soft voice that said, 'over time, one faith, one baptism, one holy, catholic and apostolic church. In eternity, the Heaven!'. This word 'Heaven' filled my heart with peace and happiness, so that, almost without realizing, I have kept telling myself for a long time: the Heaven, the Heaven".

We arrived to the appointment on time. The clear sky and the light of the day emphasized the facade of the monastery and the details of the statue of "Irma Luc?a" (Sister Luc?a), located outside of the cloistered monastery after her death on 13th February 2005.
We were invited to thank the Most High Sacrament in a small chapel adjacent to the place where we made the interview; an interior room divided in two by a wall with a large wrought iron gate.
Giorgio Bongiovanni: - Sister Sof?a, thank you very much for granting us this interview. So... with the message of Sister Lucia of Fatima, and with this book, something important opened up before us, first on the Message of Fatima and also on the Secret of Fatima... Why have you sisters written the memoirs of Lucia now, why right now?... Why at this time?
Sister Sof?a: - There was a very strong need to tell all the people the life of Sister Lucia, because you still are not familiar with Sister Lucia. You know enough about the period of the apparitions... about what happened... as it happened, what Sister Lucia did, or what she said, but later she disappeared... she was silent... and many people, almost all of them, did not know what had happened to Sister Lucia. Well, we, in Carmel, have lived many years with her, some of us more, some of us less... even we did not know everything, because it was not entirely clear... and Sister Lucia did not talk much about certain moments of her life. It was after her death that we have begun the work of the beatification process, and we have had the access to her personal writings mentioned for the first time in this book as the Caminho, my Caminho?
G. B.: - Did she have some writings in her cell?
Sister Sof?a: -Yes, she did.
G. B.: - Were they of hers?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes they were. The Caminho contains the biographical writings, manuscripts of Sister Lucia that she has personally preserved and that no one has read.
G. B.: - That means... is it a book that is titled El Caminho?
Sister Sof?a: - They are a few volumes... not a book... they are notebooks that she has written over several years of her life ?
G. B.: - And they are still under safe-keeping, are they not?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes, they are. She has written for obedience, of course, because she has always written for obedience...
G. B.: Obedience to the apparition or to...?
Sister Sof?a: - To the Bishop and confessor, who had told her to write her intimate notes and... the things of her life... what she saw.
G. B.: - And also her mystical life?
Sister Sof?a: - Also that, of course... for example we could not believe that Our Lady appeared to her here in the convent, we did not have any certainty, we could not say "Our Lady appeared to her"... after we have read her writings, we verified that the Virgin appeared to her?
G. B.: - Did she appear here?
Sister Sof?a: - Mainly in her cell?
G. B.: - How many times, where they many?
Sister Sof?a: - a few times, we do not know it well, because Sister Lucia was very discreet and it may simply be that the Virgin visited her other times to give the message that Our Lady gave to her? because she always had a purpose... Our Lady always appeared to guide her path?
G. B.: - Right
Sister Sof?a: - To offer light, to guide, to confirm something that was needed, such as... when there was the Consecration of Russia. Afterwards, Pope John Paul II sent a Cardinal, Cardinal Bertone... to confirm that the Consecration had taken place as Our Lady had asked.
G. B.: - And did it take place?
Sister Sof?a: - ... Our Lady asked it... Sister Luc?a could not say it by herself, "the Consecration had taken place or not"... but the Lady appeared to her in her cell and confirmed that the Consecration had taken place, even if a little late, but it happened?
G. B.: - Yes.
Suor Sof?a: - ... And then when the Cardinal had come here by order of the Holy Father, Sister Lucia was able to tell that the Heaven had accepted and the Cardinal asked her "but how do you know it?" and Sister Luc?a, always very discreet, told him "I'm not here for my confession, simply I tell you that I know it..."
... But she does not say "Our Lady appeared to me, She told me, I know because"... no, that has remained in the secret of her writings and later we have confirmed it. But this book could come out only now that we have the access to these writings...
G. B.: - Does this book contain all the memoires or are there others still preserved?
Sister Sof?a: - ... There are quotations of her writings, of the books that have been published, of the memoirs of Sister Lucia, of the book of the ancient messages of Fatima, and also quotes of the writings that make up "A caminho"...
G. B.: - But are there still confidential writings?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes there are, not everything has been published yet, because they are so many... very important.
G. B.: - Will they be published in the future?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes they will, the most important things for the biography have been all published...
G. B. : - Is nothing closed yet??
Sister Sof?a: - There are just some parts confidential for the process of beatification... as long as the process will not be completed they can not be published, it means that, after the process, everything can be clarified, because the historical commission is working on the process of beatification and it is a very long, very difficult work, because there are many writings... many letters? more than 11,000 letters that she wrote and that we must collect.
G. B.: - One day, we will be it able to know everything, will we not?
Sister Sof?a: - One day, yes, yes, yes, we will... I think after the process, that is still a very big work?
G. B.: - A deep question from the soul... it is written in the book, I reckon at page 287... that Sister Lucia, when she wrote the Secret of Fatima, got stuck, she could not write, she was?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes, yes, yes she did?
G. B.: - Afterwards... however, the hand of the Father appeared and Sister Lucia saw the light striking the Earth's axis and saw great disasters, now in the book?
Sister Sof?a: - Well, yes, there is a thing to clarify?
G. B.: - Yes, I do have a question... the book reports... Lucia, on one side at first says, the Immaculate Heart of Mary obviously triumphs, but here in the book it is written... maybe with this writing in the diary Lucia wanted to bring another request of Our Lady, a new appeal... What is its meaning?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes... it is important to note this... because there is a truth, a difference... Sister Lucia saw with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco this part of the Secret, which as we know, is a Secret divided into three parts...
G. B.: - Right, right...
Sister Sof?a: - ... And you have seen it in Fatima, it is the Angel who had a sword of fire... and afterwards Our Lady stopped him... Afterwards, when the bishop of Fatima insisted that Sister Lucia write the secret, because it was feared that she could die... well, Sister Lucia tried to write it for obedience, but every time she was about to start, she could not do it, because the hand... she could not write... in that same time she could write something else, such as "Ave Maria," she could not write very well... she tried to start the Secret and she could not do it and this was repeated several times... until when Sister Lucia went to the chapel to pray and asked God and Our Lady to help her because she wanted to obey, but she was not able to and it was then that Our Lady appeared to her and the hand is not of the Father... but of the Virgin Mary that touched her?
G. B.: - ... Ok ... but she saw the light of the Father, did she not?
Sister Sof?a: - ... And later Sister Lucia had a new vision of what she had seen with the little shepherds in 1917, a new vision... but with a difference... she told us that the difference is that in this moment Our Lady did not hold the fire with her hand?
G. B.: - ... What is the meaning?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes, the meaning is the problem...
G. B.: - But it seems like it is coming...
Sister Sof?a: Yes, Sister Lucia did not tell us the meaning because she was aware that the interpretation was not up to her, but to the Church...
G. B.: -... But can it be a punishment from God?
Sor Sof?a: - We can not say what it is or what it is not...
G. B.: - But the vision is clear...
Sister Sof?a: Indeed... the vision is clear... I think that the interpretation must always belong to the Church... and we too, the believers, can pray, meditate, say what this means for my personal life, for me... it means that I am in the path of conversion... we cannot give a definite answer... because Sister Lucia did not explain it?
G. B.: - But let?s see if I have understood you correctly... Sister Lucia saw, along with the three little shepherds of the secret of Fatima, the Angel who had a sword and later she saw the hand of the Holy Mother who has the sword...
Sister Sof?a: - She held it...
G. B.: -Yes, She held it... when she wrote the Secret of Fatima in January 1944... Sister Luc?a saw...
Sister Sof?a: - Again...
G. B.: - again, but she saw that the sword of fire of the Angel reached the Earth's axis and destroyed the world... that is the difference... but in the end the Immaculate Heart of Mary triumphs...
Sister Sof?a: - Yes sure, indeed, but there is something very important because when Our Lady showed her for the second time the vision, she said, "now go and write what you have seen, not what was disclosed to you... to understand...? and this is very important because Sister Lucia later went in her room and began to write very well what she could not write before... she wrote it without any problems, but she wrote only what she had seen... and not what she, as a visionary, has interpreted or understood... because certainly Our Lady gave her inner clarity to understand, but she was not allowed to explain?
G. B.: - Ok...
Sister Sof?a: - And this is important because the explanation has always been a responsibility of the Church, and so let?s wait the Church to explain it.
G. B.: - Yes, but waiting for the Church to say something about it one day, but for us faithful Sister Sophia... of course of course I do not want to ask you to say anything that you do not know, but... what kind of attitude did Sister Lucia have in front of this terrible revelation?
Sister Sof?a: - That is something that I do not know...
G. B.: - But you sisters, what did you perceive about her? Would she expect the world change without nothing big happening or did she expect the world change after a suffering?
Sister Sof?a: - I can tell you that Sister Lucia had always an optimistic view of life? she had a constant look of hope... she never fell... she had never said "there everything goes wrong, it is a disgrace"... "the world will end"... she has never said this, she always said, "God is the Father, God takes care of us, God loves us... our Lady loves us... our Lady is with us, we must have hope... God can change everything, God can save the world. The Immaculate Heart of Mary can save humanity, it can intercede for everybody, "her attitude was always of hope and trust in God... Yes... I do not say that she has not suffered, but she did not become a pessimist... never... because Sister Lucia was a very optimistic person, with a lot of confidence and a lot of faith... and when you have faith you accept that to God anything is possible, although it seems that everything goes wrong in the world, for God it is possible...
G. B.: - ...when she saw, especially in the last years of her life, she saw that the world was always going badly, always going badly... did she think to a punishment?
Sister Sof?a: - Once we, actually a Sister during the recreation, that is the moment when we talk to each other... a sister said, "look sister Lucia how the world goes badly, so much war, so many people suffering, so much evil... so many bad things" ...and she answered back with great serenity... "Sister, God created the world so many years ago"... as if to say "do not worry because everything is in God's hands"... do not despair, we must not lose hope and confidence. It is true that there is much evil, that God is kind, God wants the good for humanity... but we see that evil is something real, we cannot say that it does not exist, that we should not worry... but our concern must be to pray for those who are in sin, for those who need prayers and do something that is in our power to help them.
If we despair, and we say "everything is over"... we do not help ourselves and do not help anyone to convert, to change their own life... we have to transmit hope, the Christian faith, so that others can see that we have something for which we should pray. Sister Lucia did not see everything as catastrophic... the pessimistic side... she did not say that everything was going very badly... she always had the confidence and hope in God...
G. B.: - You sisters who write honestly in the book that there is a difference in the vision of Luc?a ...is it for obedience that you can not express your opinion? Do you have a personal opinion?
Sister Sof?a: - No, we did not... it is not a matter of obedience, it is something very concrete... we can pray, we can see something, but we did not say anything on this subject intentionally and freely, because we know that the interpretation should not come from us. It is not for obedience... and no one told us "do not do it"...; we have decided it was better to write the truth, give it to the public...
G. B.: - But there is a difference... is it true?...
Sister Sof?a: - Yes, it is true that there is, but I do not know if the most important thing is for us to focus on that difference, because we see that in this vision there are people who are suffering, there are people who die, there is the Holy Father who is injured, there is Christ, who is in the Cross and His blood shed for our salvation and there is the intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary... afterwards, the deduction of the sword of fire maybe different based on our attitude towards life, such as the everyone?s life, because God does not judge suddenly? He looks at each of us and... it would not be fair if God threw the sword of fire for everybody... and so we can not interpret this vision literally... you can not generalize for all... we must always understand that God and the Virgin want to tell us something beyond what the images are... Then we must realize that it is not up to us to give an interpretation, but everything is very recent: the publication of the book, the discovery of this difference, this is all very recent...
G. B.: - And are they studying this in the Vatican, this difference?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes they are, I think that?
G. B.: - Pope Francis?
Sister Sof?a: -... Because when the Pope revealed the Third Secret of Fatima, in 2000, he interpreted it, he did the interpretation... and the publication of this interpretation, according to what was known in that moment.
G. B.: - At that moment... Now more has been revealed?
Sister Sof?a: - Now you know a little more, and then we hope that one day the theologians, or the Holy See can say something about this further vision... it would be something that would complete the first part that has already been explained...

Sister Sof?a: - Sister Lucia always said "the decision is of the Church, it is the Church that has to say something about it"... and many people wrote to her and... asked if it was true or not, but the sister never gave an answer, neither of truth nor a negative one... because it was not up to her to judge the fact, because sister Lucia had spent in her childhood a very difficult period after the apparitions of Fatima when many people said "it is true," other said "it is not true"... Her own mother said "this is not true"... thus Sister Lucia had suffered much deep inside because she had the truth, she knew that...

Sister Sof?a: - She had seen Our Lady and she had a message... but many people, including the priest... all... told her no, that it was the work of the devil and she suffered a lot...; then, when the Church openly, through the voice of the Bishop of Fatima, had approved the Fatima apparitions, she felt a great inner joy and realized that no matter what people say... the important thing is when God through his Church confirms: "this is true".
G. B.: - For example, has Sister Lucia ever talked about other apparitions in general?
Sister Sof?a: - No, she has not...
G. B.: - Or if the Lady told her, ?I appear in other places??

For her it was not important... the most important thing was to help people to believe in what the Church already believes. There are many people who still do not know the Message of Fatima, and the message is being accomplished also in these people who are getting to know, who are becoming enthusiastic about God through the message of Fatima. And then there is also the promise that Our Lady made here in Fatima: "My Immaculate Heart will triumph?. We that carry within us the triumph of the Immaculate Heart, hope it happens in every moment of our lives, we hope it becomes true?

B.: - Pope Ratzinger, Emeritus, on the plane, returning from Fatima, said that the message of Fatima, in the part of the suffering, which is a lot, speaks to us about the sins in our Church, and said that the serious problems that we have had in our church about paedophilia, are related to the Message of Fatima. What could it mean?
Sister Sof?a: - Our Lady has never referred specifically to these, or those... I think that in Pope's heart these problems were bleeding... but the Virgin insisted and asked a lot of praying for the conversion of sinners, that you make sacrifices for their conversion... that they are not only those who are outside the Church, but they are also us that are inside of it... any of us... we are all sinners, some more, some less, but all of us are sinners, then we all need conversion. In this sense, the message is deepening and warning about those concrete sins, we can not say that Our Lady mentioned them, because she did not refer to none... we live in our time and we have these problems; 50 years ago there were others, no less important, they were important at that time... now we have these in our hand and in a hundred years we will have more and I believe that all these problems are present in the heart of Mary... in the moment she asked the conversion of the sinners, the prayer and the sacrifice... She sees everybody, She has seen everybody... we just see a little bit all the time, then she does not refer to this or that because there are problems of Church, the problems of humanity of every age... She knows it... like God knows it?
G. B.: - Is it true that Sister Lucia wrote that in a vision the Holy Mother said that God had given power to Satan to have the world in his hand for 100 years, was it written...?
Sister Sof?a: - I do not know if she has written it.
G. B.: - But are there still some writings of Sister Lucia Dos Santos that nobody knows?
Sister Sof?a: - Well, as I said, in the process of beatification it is natural and that is how the things have to go on...
G. B.: - Maybe other things will come out...
Sister Sof?a: - Yes, but... we have to go along all this path of the process of Beatification... which is very long and laborious and it is important that everything is studied and seen and that one day it can become public...
G. B.: - In 2017 they are 100 years. For you, Sister Sophia, what might 100 years later mean? Did Sister Lucia say anything...?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes... for us it is a very significant date... and very rich... it is a grace to be able to live this time of 100 years. For Sister Luc?a certainly it would have been much more... but I think she has always felt strongly present the day of 13th May 1917, when Our Lady asked her and her cousins if they wanted to offer their lives to God to accept all that could be asked to them as sacrifice and Sister Luc?a said "Yes we do", she answered for all the three kids and afterwards we see very well in this book that along her whole life she has always said "I have renewed, I have renewed My Yes of 13th May 1917?, every time she had a difficulty in obeying, in doing something, in changing her life, she renewed the yes of 13th May 1917, then we can say that for her it this first day was lived over and over again and we, 100 years later, can say that, that day is very much alive, very timely and it is very present in the life of Sister Lucia, because she gave the message ?life?... ?life?. They were not simple words the ones that Our Lady told Sister Luc?a, but all of this has become life in the life of Sister Luc?a, which lasted about 100 years...
G. B.: - Last question... With all my heart... and may you help me, may you help us Sister Sof?a... I do not ask you the question with fear, but with much love, because we know, believers, what does the Bible mean, the end of the world... the Message of Fatima, because you have known Sister Luc?a?
Sister Sof?a: - Yes... I had the grace?
G. B.: - Did the Message of Fatima have to do with the end of the world?
Sister Sof?a: - I believe that the Message of Fatima can be... thinking about the secret, it can be apocalyptic in the sense that it can reveal us something more then what we can see... but we can not say concretely that it has something to do with the end of the world, in the sense that Our Lady tells us to "be careful because the world is ending" because that has happened for example at the time of St. Paul... when Christians...

Sister Sof?a: ... And she said "no, it is not for this time". We can not live in fear...
G. B.: - No, no, we can not but we can be aware...
Sister Sof?a: I think that the importance of the message is not concretely to define an end, we need to tell us not to live with fear... conversion yes, change of life yes, fine... but we must not be afraid... May God will take away the...
G. B.: - But that has to do with a great purification...
Sister Sof?a: - A large purification, a large conversion of life yes... the end of the world, or a catastrophe, I do not think so... I do not think so... I reckon?
G. B.: - Or a purification also with suffering?

Sister Sof?a: - ... "Penance", it does not say... "desperation" ... "end of the world"... it does not talk about that...
G. B.: - ... Yes, of course, but the vision says that the purification can be...
Sister Sof?a: ... But the purification is for this world... it is for today, is it not? And... I do not... I do not think one needs to intimidate people saying... "the end of the world is here"... because that intimidates people, does it not? But we must always alert... our life has a purpose and that is for sure...; the end of my life is the end of my world... and then I have to convert myself, change my life, love God in this life so that... one day, when it ends and I can see God in a new way... that is I think it is the most important thing of the message and it is certainly what Our Lady wanted... and that is what Sister Luc?a has always tried to convey to draw the attention of people: conversion, penance in this life... then I think that the end of the world will always be an unknown thing... unless? there will be other apparitions of Our Lady. And God forbid that... but that there would be salvation... I think that in this vision, you can not tell "here there is an implicit final"... this is my opinion... what I can see?
